Women leads as Anjaw ready to vote

ITANAGAR, Nov 18: Perhaps for the first time in the history of the state, the contesting candidates, DEO/RO and the general observer deputed by the election commissioner are all women as Anjaw goes to poll on Nov 19. The election is being held after former chief minister Kalikho Pul allegedly committed suicide on Aug 9 after he lost his chair following Supreme Court intervention amidst political upheavals.
The two contesting candidates are Dasanglu Pul, wife of former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on BJP ticket and Yompi Kri, an independent candidate. Kri is the wife of PHED & WS chief engineer Lapalum Kri who had also filed his nomination but was disqualified as the state government did not accept his voluntary resignation paper, leading to disqualification by Election Commission of India.
The election is seen as tough test for Chief Minister Pema Khandu. He has campaigned for Pul recently and has stationed his cousin, MLA Jambey Tashi and confidante MLA Phurpa Tsering in the district to campaign for the BJP candidate.
Meanwhile, women exclusive polling station and model polling stations have been set up in the constituency.
According to Chief Electoral Officer, the entire campaign period which ended on Thursday was peaceful and the election machinery is fully geared up for conducting the bye-election in a free and fair manner.
CEO has urged all to cast their votes without any fear.
All the polling personnel have reached their designated polling stations on Friday and sufficient police forces have been deployed in the entire district.
Ministry of home affairs has provided two companies of Central Armed Police Force to ensure peaceful election while two observers deputed by the election commissioner of India are already stationed at Hayuliang.
With Returning officer Mamta Riba at the helms, Rs 21, 56,000, liquor and opium has been seized during the entire campaign period.
Roing police nabs three for assaulting NHPC official

Roing, Nov 18: The Roing Police has nabbed the culprits responsible for recent assault on Bengia Guma, Deputy Manager (DM) of Dibang Multipurpose Project, NHPC Limited. The police sprang into action right after receiving the complaint on the night of Tuesday last and managed to solve the case within 48 hours on Thursday evening. SP Roing Sanjay K Sain, acting on a tip off, had put the suspects on radar and analysed their Call Data Report. When called in for interrogation, they admitted to having committed the crime.
The three suspects Riko Mimi, Jhony Mimi and Duka Mimi, all hailing from New Anaya village under Dibang Valley District were immediately arrested by the police and taken into custody.
The prime culprit Riko Mimi works as a contractual employee under the NHPC Ltd. Reportedly the victim deputy manager had held up Mimi's salary because of his irregularities and absenteeism during his duty. Therefore, he planned the assault with a motive to avenge this disciplinary action initiated against him by the DM.
As per reports, three masked miscreants had entered the rented house of the DM at around 7:30pm on Tuesday last and started physically assaulting him with sticks, stones and iron rod. As a result of attack, Bengia Guma sustained grievous injuries on his rib area, head and legs. A criminal case has been registered at the Roing PS vide RNG /PS /Case No.57/2016 U/S 447/325/308/34 IPC.
Meanwhile, the officers of NHPC Dibang Multipurpose Project (DMP) have expressed earnest gratitude to all stakeholders for the overwhelming support. They also welcomed the timely arrest of suspect by team of Lower Dibang Valley police.
The NHPC also appreciated the family member of Bengia Guma for handling the whole situation in best appropriate manner. "We highly appreciate the educated family of Er Guma for the most composed disposition even at the time of atrocity and grief which has helped in controlling the situation from further aggravation. We acknowledge the guidance and support of Lower Dibang Valley District Administration as well. Also the timely intervention of Arunachal Pradesh Police and booking of the suspects has brought in tremendous sense of security for all employees working in all Departments of Arunachal," the NHPC added.
Giving details of the aftermath of attack, the NHPC informed, "On causing grievous injuries Er Guma was first rushed to District Hospital, Roing. In order to evacuate the victim from Roing to Apollo Hospital, Delhi, a chopper of Indian Air Force was deputed promptly with the help of the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. The Arunachal government officials at Guwahati, Tinsukia, Shillong, Arunachal Bhawan Delhi and the officials of civil aviation department helped immensely," NHPC added. Terming Er Guma as one of the most sincere and dedicated official, NHPC has strongly condemned the incident and sought appropriate action as per the law.
Arunachal goes digital
Itanagar, Nov 18: In an another attempt to make the state go digital way, Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday inaugurated the e-Office training programme for all ministers and parliamentary secretaries at the Civil Secretariat here.
The Department of Information Technology and Communication is committed to make the entire civil secretariat paperless by the end of this year as per cabinet decision of August 20 last, an official communiqué informed.
The e-office mission mode project has been taken up by the union Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) department in order to improve efficiency in government processes and service delivery mechanisms.
NIC is the technology partner of DARPG for implementing e-Office mission mode project.
e-Office is aimed at increasing the usage of work flow and rule based file routing, quick search and retrieval of files and office orders, digital signatures for authentication, forms and reporting components.
e-Office framework (premium version) presently consists of e-File, e-Leave, e-Tour, Knowledge Management System, Personnel Information System, Collaboration and Messaging Systems, the communiqu said.
Khandu inaugurated e-Office by signing an e-file for Department of IT & Communications on August 16 last.
Simultaneously, the Department of Information technology, Administrative Reforms and Personnel were taken on-boarded in eOffice.
Arunachal is among one of the first states in the country to incorporate e-sign as part of e-office.
E-sign includes Aadhar based Digital Signature and doesn't require any USB dongle. One can do e-sign from any platform and any device easily.
The first digitally signed orders regarding implementation of e-office were issued by all the ministers present during the training.
Khandu appreciated the efforts of the NIC team and IT&C department to deploy e-office in all the departments of the secretariat.
He also instructed all head of departments to ensure immediate completion of the training, the communiqué added. Earlier, Chief Minister Pema Khandu flagged-off the Digital India Outreach Campaign Van.
The Chief Minister appealed his colleagues to extend full cooperation and support to the Outreach Campaign Van while on mobile throughout the State.
The campaign will reach out to people in rural and semi urban areas and explain the target group by explaining the benefits and details of the services offered under e-Governance, Healthcare, e-Commerce etc.
For the success of the Digital India in its true sense it is important that population in rural areas who have been deprived of the IT revolution are aware of the benefits and avail the services without any hassles and concern, said the Chief Minister.
RGUEA celebrates 25th year with health screening
RONO HILLS, Nov 18: Rajiv Gandhi University Employees' Association (RGUEA) celebrated its silver jubilee at the university auditorium on Friday.
To mark the occasion, the association also organized a free Hepatitis B screening test here at Health Centre RGU campus wherein around 250 people in and around the campus attended.
MLA Tage Taki while addressing the event emphasised on the quality of work in any administrative organizations. Citing that sincerity is the key word to success, the MLA appealed all the employees to be sincere and dedicated in their works. He encouraged the RGU employees to work hard for personal and social upliftment.
Registrar RGU Rachob Taba briefing about the historical background of the university said that the status of the university has improved a lot. He urged the members of the association to maintain the work spirit and take the university to a new height.
ZPM cum General Secretary All Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Coordination Committee Rajo Gyadi lauded the employees association for their untiring efforts in conducting various activities for the welfare of common people. He requested the teaching faculty of the university to emphasis more on quality education.
RGUEA president Dr Nani Tamang Jose said the completion of 25 years is a milestone in terms of growth of employees association.
We have conducted a lot to developmental activities for the university employees in all fronts, he added. He further briefed about the association's activities and different struggling period it has gone through to reach the current position.
Deputy Registrar RGU, Dr David Pertin presented the activity profile of the RGUEA since the last 25 years. He said on December 12, 1990, the association was established with the aim to work for the welfare of RGU employees. He said said RGUEA has been conducting social services, tree plantation, outreach programme and others.
Meanwhile, on the inaugural day on November 17, Finance Officer RGU Prof Amitab Mitra appreciated the health screening and said that health related programme would benefit the common people.
A booklet '25 years of a glance' was also released while senior employees were felicitated.

2nd Tallang-Hira Memorial Volleyball, Cultural cum Literary Competition 2016 conclude

ITANAGAR, Nov 18: Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki stated that all tribes of the state should be given equal opportunity to lead the organisations particularly students organisations in the state.
Former Chief Minister was addressing the valedictory function of 2nd Tallang-Hira Memorial Volleyball, Cultural cum Literary Competition 2016 organised by All Nyishi Students Union(ANSU).
"Arunachal Pradesh is one family, though diverse in culture. Other community should be also given equal opportunity to lead the organisations" said Congress stalwart adding that youth of the community should also focus on skill development programe.
Tuki further pointed out that the Nyishi as a larger community has larger responsibilities to shoulder in shaping the state future. On preservation of culture, former Chief Minister added that language/dialect of any community is an identity and culture. He encouraged the ANSU members to speak in own dialect in its formal programes. He also urged the ANSU members to create awareness and educate the villagers at village level on current demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 so that innocent villagers do not suffer unnecessarily. Tuki opined that organisations should support welfare government to function smoothly; however, he maintained that the government must take criticism positively.
Nyishi Elite Society (NES) General Secretary Heri Maring in his address called upon the youth to make ANSU an institution of knowledge sharing, encouragement, motivational and inspirational.
"To make better Arunachal, reformation must first begin from Nyishis" added Maring appealing the student's community to shoulder responsibilities. NES GS further urged the student's community to follow the footsteps shown by late Biki Tallang and Kabak Hira who died in a tragic accident on November 18, 1991.
ANSU Assistant General Secretary Tukbom Ligu narrated the brief biography and contributions of Biki Tallang and Kabak Hira. The union convenor Tana Doji highlighted the objectives of programe adding that tournament is being conducted to honour late ANSU leaders.
Meanwhile, All Tali Area Students' Union (ATASU) has lifted the 2nd Tallang-Hira Memorial Volley trophy defeating All Palin Chambang Yangte-Gante Tarak Langdi Students Union (APCYGTLSU) in a close contest played here this evening. ATASU outplayed APCYGTLSU 3-2. A colourful cultural programe was also displayed during the programes. Among others present on occasion were ANSU President Byabang Joram, GS Nyanya Gollo and many others.
Tayeng condemns disruption of Mebo-Dhola road re-carpeting work by miscreants

PASIGHAT, Nov 18: Strongly condemning the incident wherein some unknown miscreants have allegedly threatened to discontinue the ongoing re-carpeting work over Mebo-Dhola road carried out by PWD, Pasighat Division, in the wee hours on Wednesday night, local MLA-cum-Advisor to Chief Minister, Lombo Tayeng has directed Mebo ADC to investigate the matter on urgent basis and award strict punishment to the culprits involved.
'At present, re-carpeting work over Mebo-Dhola Road from Zero Point (Mebo Chariali) to Ngopok Korong between Kiyit and Borguli village covering around 15 Kms are in full swing. Efforts and plans are on to complete the re-carpeting work in the remaining stretch of Mebo-Dhola Road upto Taratamak River between Namsing and Gadum village by March 2017. If such disruptions comes in the midst, we will not be able to achieve the target', added Tayeng.
Meanwhile, condemnation over the act of disrupting developmental works has poured in from all quarters, including Mebobian living across the state. ABK East Siang President, Okom Yosung and ABK (HQ) Joint Secretary, Todol Pertin have also vehemently condemned the act.
Education and health are the foundation of a developed society: Rijiju
SEPPA, Nov 18: Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju said that education and health are the basic foundation for any society, without these two vital sectors a society cannot be developed.
He said this during the valedictory function of the 3 day-long mega golden jubilee celebration of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Pampoli here on Monday last.
Rijiju reiterated that education and health are the most important social sectors on which development of any society is depended upon. He further said that he is in continuous touch with CM Pema Khandu and the concerned ministers and he has been discussing with them regarding the holistic development of these two sectors. 'Given the importance associated with these sectors, it will be detrimental to ignore and neglect them,' he added.
He urged the students to imbibe good character and discipline in life and requested the teaching fraternity to impart good and quality education, relevant to the changing environment.
Further, stating that road communication is vital for other developmental aspects to make inroads, he informed that he always suggest the state government to submit proposals under PMGSY in time, which is important to achieve last-mile connection. 'Without proposals submitted on time it is difficult for me to approach and request the central government for necessary approval and fund provision,' he added.
Responding to the memorandum submitted by the school authority on the occasion, he assured to look into the matter and discuss with the concerned authority.
Earlier, the Union Minister also released "Gamle", a souvenir which was compiled by K Tabu, Dr. R Taba and Dr. P Lingfa,who are the school's alumni.
Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Bamang Felix in his address said that education plays a vital role in shaping a society and exhorted the locals and teaching fraternity to extend support in the development of the education sector in the district and state as whole. He further requested the government officials and HoDs to undertake at least 4 classes a week in schools.
Parliamentary Secretary for Tax & Excise, Tapuk Taku lauded the yeoman services provided by the teachers in bringing changes in the society and appealed everyone to cooperate with the state government for the development of the district.
Recalling the contribution of people behind the establishment of GHSS Pampoli, Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Institution, Mama Natung exhorted the people to remember the former teachers and public leaders, particularly the late Dera Natung, who have toiled hard for bringing up the school up to this position.
He further informed that R K Mission School will also be established in the district soon while, a new APSTS bus plying between Seppa and Bana is also going to be put into service at the earliest.

Education is panacea to all ills that plague the society: Ngandam
AALO, Nov 18: Education is the panacea to all ills that plague the society, said Minister for Education, Honchun Ngandam and exhorted the teachers and students to strive with a renewed commitment for quality education.
Ngandam was addressing the teachers and students during a function organized by the Tadin Upper Primary School to mark its golden jubilee celebrations here on Wednesday last.
He further disclosed that a 'No Detention' rule as per new education policy has robbed sincerity, punctuality and obedience and therefore, the matter has been taken up with Ministry of Human Resource Development to rollback it to the earlier pattern. The education system is being revamped to improve the functioning of schools and a toll free number will be installed at Itanagar to keep in touch and monitor the functioning of schools in the state, he informed. While responding to the memorandum submitted on the occasion pertaining to Tadin-Yemin road, boundary fencing around the school, construction of Girls and Boys Hostel and road connecting the school, the Minister said that the matter will be looked into jointly in the State Annual Development Agenda (SADA).
The Minister also inaugurated golden jubilee gate and Liin erected by Kitum Siram and Kemo Lollen, the alumni of the school. A souvenir titled Gakar Moba was also unveiled to mark the occasion.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Tapang Taloh also recalled the contributions of the teachers and students of yesteryears and present generation who were instrumental in development of the school.
APEDA Chairman, Jarkar Gamlin also appealed to the teaching community to impart quality education and asked the students to refrain from drug abuse and alcoholism. He also disclosed that Tadin-Ngomdir Road has been placed under RIDF and work on it will commence soon.
On the occasion, the first teacher of the school, SK Debnath who served the school in 1966 and founders of the school late Meki Siram, late Marge Taso, late Kike Lollen, late Jirli Padu, late Kirmo Bagra, late Hodak Payum along with Biko Tasi, Bare Taso and Tobin Lollen were felicitated in persons and posthumously.

Defense Club Ziro celebrates 25th year
MLA seeks positive introspection
ZIRO, Nov 18: "Silver Jubilee year of any organization is a major landmark in its history. It is an occasion for celebration as well as for positive introspection. At the same time, the members should look at various issues threatening the very existence of Ziro and take positive actions to guide the society in the right direction," said Er Tage Taki while participating in the silver jubilee celebration of Defense Club Ziro at Hija Dree ground today.
Youths are the workforce and brain behind any developmental activity, and are the backbone of the society he added and suggested for inclusion of more youth members to the Club to strengthen and upkeep the reputation of the club.
He congratulated the members of one of the oldest registered NGOs of the Ziro Valley for being forerunners in promoting sports, literature, culture, health and environmental conservation events in the valley.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen said that Ziro is a hub of intellectuals and acts as a think tank for many creative and sustainable ideas pertaining to culture, livelihood and society. This aspect has attracted many European scholars to the valley who later went on to write several books on the Apatani culture and society.
The fact that Ziro has a wide range of NGOs dealing with all the entities ranging from butterflies, birds, rivers, farm women, weavers etc is a testimony to the awareness and the intelligence of the Apatani people which should be emulated by our fellow brethrens, he added. He also felt the need to sensitize and guide the younger generations and NGOs will have a major role to play.
Ex-MLA Nani Ribia, ZPM Hija, Dani Buker also spoke on the occasion.
Chairman Defence Club Ziro, Er Dani Lampung highlighted the activities of the Club since its inception. The Club established in 1991, as a result of curious group of 13 to 15 year old volleyball player's initiation has today been well recognized by the government of Arunachal Pradesh for its untiring and selfless social works. It has conducted series of philanthropic activities such as plantation drives, distributed dustbins in tune with the Swaach Bharat Abhiyan, conducted awareness campaign on safe sanitation and safe handling of water, conducted Rural sports programs to promote sports and search talent, partnered with PHED department and carried out publicity program on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan etc.
Earlier MLA Er Tage Taki inaugurated the photo exhibition of various activities by the club and paid floral tributes to the founding members of the club.
A souvenir of the club was released on the occasion. A Colorful cultural program also marked the occasion. Prizes for various literary, cultural and sports activities conducted during the two day celebrations were distributed later by the chief guest.

Bordumsa police cracks murder case
CHANGLANG, Nov 18: Bordumsa police has solved a murder case of one Ratna Mura who was found dead by the villagers on Nov 12 last at Khonji Pathar village under Bordumsa circle. The body was found in a half decomposed state with face beyond recognition covered under bushes. The post mortem and inquest over the body was conducted by the police and message flashed to neighbouring police stations of Arunachal and Assam regarding the unidentified body.
A day later, one Vinod Mura of Mohong village under Bordumsa circle identified the body to be of his niece late Ratna Mura.
A special team was constituted with CI R Khomrang and OC Bordumsa R Borang under the close supervision of SDPO John Pada. Sources were activated and police got an important clue that the deceased was last seen with one Monjit Sonowal of Khouji Pathar village. Search operation was launched and the suspected accused Sonowal was apprehended by the team the next day on Nov 14. On intense interrogation the suspected accused broke down and confessed to have murdered late Ratna Mura. He confessed that he and the deceased had been in relation for past 6 months. As the accused was already in a serious relationship with another girl he decided to eliminate late Mura. He strangulated her on the intervening night of Nov 7th/8th.
Call for review of DBT of PDS schemes
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The Arunachal Pradesh Fair Price Shop Dealers Welfare Association has called for review of direct benefit transfer (DBT) of PDS schemes.
In its memorandum to the food and civil supply and consumer affairs minister, citing the GoI notification dated April 29, 2016 whereby BPL and APL schemes were discontinued and new schemes of AAY and PHH were brought in under National Food Security Act claimed that the fair price shop owners are not getting any handling and profit margin.
The national food security act provides for central financial assistance to fair price shops which are presently proposed at the ratio of 75:25 i.e., 75 percent to be provided by the central government and 25 percent to be paid by the state government. Though six months have already passed since the implementation of National food Security act but till date the same has not been released causing huge losses to the fair price shop dealers and transporters in the state, it said.
Our agriculture product is not sufficient to meet the requirement of consumers even for a month. The direct benefit transfer of subsidy (DBT) of PDS scheme is being imposed upon the consumers of border state. There's no such proposal for other North Eastern states. The direct transfer of cash component would not serve the purpose of the consumers unless there are open marker facilities for procurement of essential ration commodities (ERC), the association further added.
Documentary on disaster preparedness released
ZIRO, Nov 18: A documentary title "Udw Tenda Muchu Lingw" ( a spark neglected burns a house) was released by Deputy Commissioner Lower Subansiri Kemo Lollen as part of series of disaster preparedness activities initiated by DDMO Nima Drema.
The 15 minute documentary conceptualized and directed by Yachang Tacho deals with the chronic problem of fire accidents in Ziro Valley and measures to mitigate it.
The DC congratulated the entire crew and cast of the film and lauded the efforts of the DDMO in uniquely spreading awareness on disaster preparedness.
He suggested for compressing the video for wider circulation in social media as well. He also advised to incorporate AIR, DOORDARSHAN and the local cable tv networks for better outreach and wider circulation.
Later, he also handed over cash prizes of Rs 5000, 3000 and 2000 to Teli Boron, Likha Tagi and Tap Tama respectively, the winners of the drawing completion held amongst school children on disaster preparedness.
Teli Boron had also represented the state in the national level drawing competition at New Delhi on Nov 3.
Congratulating the winners, DC advised the students to work hard and excel in academics as well.
Today's generation is fortunate in terms of education facilities and one should optimally utilise them to be successful" he added.
Later a megaphone and a search light was handed over to the town magistrate by the DDMO.

Arun Drishti conducts eye camp
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The Arun Drishti Eye Care and Research Centre conducted free eye screening camp in collaboration with National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) and Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve, Seijosa, Department of Environment and Forests, Government of Arunachal Pradesh at Community Health Centre, Seijosa, East Kameng District on Nov 16. The team of Eye Specialists including Dr. Taba Khanna, State Programme Officer, NPCB and Dr. Talum Sorum, Eye Consultant, RK Mission Hospital and para-medical staff - Takhe Laing, Ophthalmic Assistant, Tomo Riba State Hospital, S. Roy, Ophthalmic Assistant, District Hospital, Seppa and Karyum Lomi, Optometrists, Arun Drishti conducted the camp in which 286 eye patients attended.
24 patients have been identified as cataract operable cases who have been referred to Base Hospital of Arun Drishti at Itanagar for surgery. 189 refractive error patients were given spectacles on subsidised rates.
All the eye infection patients were also given medicines free of cost.
The Divisional Forest Officer, Pakke WLS & Tiger Reserve, Tana Tapi and his Range Forest Officer, Padam Bahadur Rana were supervising the camp along with the Medical Officers and staff of Community Health Centre, Seijosa of East Kameng District Health and Family Welfare department.
Yarn and improvised loin looms distributed
CHANGLANG, Nov 18: Changlang North MLA Tesam Pongte gave away yarn and improvised Loin looms to selected/passed out trainees from Changlang North and South Constituencies under Chief Minister's Indigenous Textile Promotion Scheme in a function organised by the Department of Textile and Handicraft. All the beneficiaries were given 10 KG of yarn.
Stating that there is a scarcity of local/traditional products, Pongte advised the weavers to start producing traditional items and urged them all to make best use of the weaving materials distributed.
Earlier, ADTH, Changlang J P Bora in his key note address informed that the main objective of the scheme is to help unemployed youth by making them self employed. He informed that in total 116 selected/passed out trainees were given the same benefit in the district. (DIPRO)
Football tournament starts
Aalo, Nov 18: The second Dubi Rike Ete memorial football tournament organized by District Football Association got off to a flying start at Aalo General Ground. Gracing the occasion Jarkar Gamlin, MLA Aalo East and Chairman APEDA said that sports are also an integral part of life and it should be taken up in true spirit that governs it.
He exhorted the player to take up sports as a profession. Responding to one point memorandum submitted on the occasion pertaining to appointment and posting of Football Coach at Aalo, Gamlin assured to look into the matter. Er. Geyum Padu, Secretary WRD appreciated late Dubi Rike Ete family for organizing such splendid tournament to promote football talents from the district.

Former Governor S K Sinha passes away
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: Former Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Jammu and Kashmir Lt General S K Sinha passed away at a hospital in New Delhi on Thursday morning after brief illness. He was 92.
Lt General Sinha was the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh from 17th May 1999 to 1st August 1999.
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh V. Shanmuganathan has expressed grief on the sudden demise of former Governor.
Conveying heartfelt condolences on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor said that Lt General Sinha was known for his military acumen, commitment to the people and down-to-earth attitude.
Taba wins three medals in Asian Weightlifting C'ship
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: International weightlifter Kojum Taba has won three bronze medals in the recently held Asian Weightlifting Championship in Tokyo, Japan. Taking part in the 85 Kg weight category, Taba lifted 144 Kgs in Snatch and 184 Kgs in Clean & Jerk with an aggregate of 328 Kgs.
Earlier, Taba had clinched the Senior Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship title for India in Penang, Malaysia in October last. The Arunachalee weightlifter not only became Senior Commonwealth Champion but also had defended his Junior Commonwealth title winning gold medal for second consecutive time. Taking part in the 85 kg weight category, Kojum lifted a total 330 Kg, thus breaking his own record set during selection trial conducted by Indian Weightlifting Federation few weeks ago at NIS Patiala, Punjab.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Weightlifting Association extended its heartfelt congratulation to lifter Kojum Taba for bringing laurels for India and the state.
Health camp at Lazu
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: A Health Camp was conducted at Lazu village wherein an Awareness Campaign cum Health check up with free distribution of medicines was conducted on Nov 16. While interacting with the gathering DMO Dr. N. Lowang said that in case of suspected malaria- villagers should visit nearest hospital for malaria test and anti malaria medications which is freely available.
Dr. N. Lowang emphasized on the importance of early consultation, diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses along with proper hygiene at home as well as in the village. She appealed the Chiefs, GB, PRIs, church members and youths to be pro active in spreading the health awareness and to accept various vaccinations and modern medications by the villagers.
MD, GH Khonsa Dr. Roto Robo spoke on jaundice and its prevention. The fear and misconception of IV Fluid /saline and injections was clarified.
He called on the people to stop local treatment saying that it is detrimental to the health of the patient and many a times patient succumbs to kidney and multi organ failure due to local treatment.
DVBDCPO Dr. O.Taggu spoke on signs and symptoms, early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of malaria.
Cleanliness drive held at Komlighat

PASIGHAT, Nov 18: In view of the ensuing 3rd Siang Aarti to be conducted on Jan. 13, 14 and 15, 2017, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a cleanliness drive was conducted by the executive committee members of Sarvajanik Siang Aarti Mahotsava Committee (SSAMC) in coordination with United Students of Pasighat along Komlighat on Thursday last.
During the drive, the volunteers led by SSAMC President, Lungkang Ering and United Students of Pasighat President, Lenzing Doming cleaned the children's park and the other areas.
The 'Siang Aarti' conducted in Siang River (Brahmaputra) at Komlighat here in Pasighat during Makar Sankranti is observed in the lines of Ganga Aarti being held at Haridwar and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand and Varanasi in UP.
Pongte inaugurates school
CHANGLANG, Nov 18: Changlang North MLA Tesam Pongte inaugurated Govt Primary School RCC Building under SSA at Garaline of Namtok Circle on Nov 17 last fulfilling long pending demand of the locality.
He also inspected Govt Higher Secondary School, Kongsa, PHC Namtok wherein he gave a patient hearing to the problems faced by the teachers, students and the medical staff. While expressing satisfaction over the running of the schools and management of the PHC, he assured them to redress their grievances at the earliest possible.
While responding to a 12 points memorandum submitted by the public and PRI leaders of Namtok Circle, the MLA assured that the grievances would be taken up with the concerned departments for immediate action.
He exhorted all the teachers to discharge their duties and responsibilities with sincerity and dedication.

DA bans Paris Polyphylla extraction
ITANAGAR Nov 18: The Lower Dibang Valley district administration has banned extraction of Paris Polyphylla locally known as Jungali Kachu. District Magistrate, Deepak Sinde in an order said that the decision was taken in the interest of conservation of rare and endangered species.
In another order, DC has directed the banks to open till 6 PM till normalization of situation and until further orders following the demonetization of Rs 500-1000 notes.
NCP reacts
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The state unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has strongly condemned the denial of visa to Bamang Tago, Secretary of Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) by the Chinese embassy in Delhi.
Tago was nominated to represent the country as manager of 14 member Indian Badminton team for ongoing China Super Series Premier badminton tournament.
NCP has appealed to the Govt. of India to take up the issue with Chinese counterpart to end the visa imbroglio.
Eviction drive
ZIRO, Nov 18: An eviction drive was carried out in Ziro-Hapoli township to remove hoardings and other objects within the distance of 100 meters from the national highways that were obstructing drivers as per the orders of Lower Subansiri DC, Kemo Lollen.
The eviction drive was carried out by Town Magistrate, EAC, Mobia Tai and CO, Bengia Yakar along with police personnel.
The DC has further issued similar orders to ADC Raga and Yachuli to remove such structures to facilitate smooth driving and avoid accidents. (DIPRO)

ITANAGAR, Nov18: The Department of Sociology, Don Bosco College, Itanagar, conducted its annual departmental seminar on the topic "Indigenous Ritual Practices among the Nyishi of Papum Pare District". Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Rajiv Gandhi University Dr. Nabam Nakha Hina in his keynote address urged the students not to be biased due to religious disparities and have an open mind. He advised the participants not to distort the history, values and the traditions of society which would otherwise be detrimental for the development of society.
ABK mourns
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: Expressing shock over the demise of retired APCS officer Katon Borang who passed away on November 15 last at his residence at Ngopok Village, Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) said his good deeds and selfless sacrifices in moulding the Adi society will always be remembered.
He was an orator, Adi Kebang expert and a true guardian of Adi culture and tradition. He was also a good administrator, it said.
Late Borang served the state for 34 years. He had joined service on October 22, 1965 at Aalo. In 1983, he was promoted to EAC and later served the state by holding various posts. He retired from service as DC East Siang. He was one of the founder members of Bogum Bokang Kebang.
School completes training
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: JNK Public School has successfully completed National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) training conducted by Department of Electronics & Information Technology under Ministry of Communication and IT government of India, becoming the first School in the city to do so.
While speaking to the students and teachers, Principal Shijoy Kurian spoke about the importance of digital awareness and congratulated the students and teachers who passed the exam.
Community awareness programme on Disaster Management
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: A community awareness programme on Disaster Management was organized on Friday in the premises of the office of Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Complex. It was organized by the District Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with 12th Bn National Disaster Response Force, Doimukh. Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) M Padung Doke speaking on the occasion urged everyone to take advantage of the programme and thanked the NDRF for their effort to sensitize the people on disaster management. She further added that the programme would give basic information on how to conduct oneself during disasters. As ours is a Himalayan state, we cannot rule out the possibility of disasters like earthquake so we need to be prepared, she added.
During the programme, the NDRF team gave brief demonstration on the basic steps/ techniques of rescue during disaster and also highlighted the use of improvised tools/ methods from locally available resources.The programme is part of the second phase of Community Awareness Programme which is aimed to create awareness among people about the various do's and don't's and safety tips on disasters. It would be conducted in various offices, private schools etc.The first phase of Community Awareness Programme was held consecutively for three months from June to September 2016 during which the DDMA had covered most of the Government schools of the Capital Complex and their feeder schools and the vulnerable locations of the Capital Complex.
Yak Mela
DIRANG, Nov 18: ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh organized a Yak Mela at Lubrang in West Kameng to promote yak conservation as well as the scientific Yak rearing in the country. Lubrang located at above 10,000 ft above msl is inhabited by the tribal yak herders of the state. The Yak Mela was held in collaboration with Indian Army and ITBP.
More than 1000 yaks were gathered for the event. ICAR- National Research Centre on Yak provided basic tools and kits to encourage yak.
Dr. R. S. Gandhi, ADG (AP& B), ICAR, New Delhi appreciated the efforts of scientists for organizing the Yak Mela and promised assistance to the farmers for future endeavors.
Director of Animal Husbandry Department, Govt. of Uttarakhand, Dr. S. S. Bist spoke on different activities being initiated in his state. Director, ICAR-NRC on Yak, Dr. S. M. Deb was instrumental in organizing the Yak Mela.
During the programme a book on Arunachali Yak was released.
GSU seeks demarcation of school land
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The members of Galo Students Union (GSU) recently called parliamentary secretary for land management Gojen Gadi at his official residence to discuss rampant encroachment in and around Government schools. Terming the matter very serious, the GSU team requested Gojen Gadi to issue effective directive from his end to all DCs and DLRSOs to conduct demarcation of land of all Government Schools of Arunachal Pradesh to ensure a concrete boundary line.
GSU also added that if state govt. can take necessary initiative to collect revenue from vendors and inhabitants in and around school premises, it could be a good revenue generating source for the state. Gadi assured GSU that he will try his level best in whatever possible way and will take necessary initiative from his end.
RKM to introduce Reproductive Medicine
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: Ramakrishna Mission Hospital will soon introduce Department of Reproductive Medicine (Infertility).
The service will be led by Dr. Bengia Chirchi, M.B.B.S., M.S. (O & G), who underwent a fellowship in Reproductive medicine under the guidance of Dr. Deepak Goenka, a well known Reproductive Medicine specialist in Guwahati.
Ward members seek fund for road maintenance
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: Appalled by deplorable road condition of Donyi-Polo Colony Ward No. 17, the ward member and Area Development Secertary of Ward No. 17 sought fund for maintenance. In a joint representation submitted to Deputy Chief Minister who is holding the PWD portfolio, they pleaded for early restoration of colony road. They claimed that said road is poorly maintained and under deplorable condition for many years.
Committee unhappy with ill constructed road stretch
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The Sawa Socio Economic & Infrastructure Development Committee (SSEIDC) has complained against the executing agency and the contractor of PMGSY Sawa road.
In its representation to the chief executive office, ARRDA, the committee claimed that culverts along the 51 km Seppa- Chayang Tajo road to Sawa Co HQ have been poorly constructed.
The culverts are constructed poorly, many of which have collapsed. The height has also not been maintained but the department has paid the bill without doing any survey of the constructed culverts, it alleged.
The committee also claimed that curves on the stretch of the road are short in width and that some of the stretches have steep gradient.

Conflict between NATO & Russia
The standoff between West and Russia is brewing and pose serious threat to international peace. Tension is especially escalating in the Baltic region. Russia which has been expressing concern over expansion of NATO into its former soviet territories has been building up massive military infrastructure in the region bordering NATO countries. This has unnerved small NATO members and with US President elect Donald Trump refusing to completely support NATO, the situation is getting more tensed. Lithuania on Friday warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin may test the military preparedness and diplomatic determination of NATO in the weeks before Donald Trump becomes US President. Lithuania believes its dark view of Russian intentions is justified by its geography and its history. Once part of the Soviet Union, it is now a member of both Nato and the European Union. It has a direct land border with the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea.

World toilet day
Dear Editor
As we celebrate world toilet day on November 19th one wonders about the government's
initiative of constructing more and more toilets ,which is laudable. But merely constructing
more and more toilets is not going to be worthwhile if it is not in usable condition
and only be statistical jugglery. It is important to keep the existing toilets clean
and usable with availability of clean water with regular maintenance. Also through
hygiene education and regular awareness campaigns, people's behavior should be changed,
which will make them use toilets instead of relieving themselves in public places,
which will help India achieve its goal of becoming open defecation free (ODF) by
2019. One recalls what Mahatma Gandhi wrote in May 1925 edition of "Navajivan," a
weekly newspaper edited by him, about the importance of keeping lavatories clean

Diminish the gap
Dear Editor,
After demonitization of Rs.500 & Rs.1000 notes, haves of my State might be spending sleepless nights apprehending legal actions against them if they deposit more than Rs. 2.5 lacs. Well, I am totally unaware and ignorant about its implications for the Scheduled Tribe residents of Arunachal Pradesh as there is a statute which may/might be giving benefit.
However, I am sure and certain that the haves have amassed huge properties from ill-
In my opinion Cash in Hand & Cash Deposits in Banks are a kind of movable assets. I am not sure whether exemption due to statute may or may not benefit them.
However, beware if there is an ignorance as there exists a statute which curbs such Disproportionate Assets. Section 13(1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 is fair enough to squeeze many if all the concerned authorities/departments/officers viz: police, prosecution, vigilance etc are fairly active in the performance of their duty. Remember possessing Disproportionate Asset is Criminal Misconduct.
If this provision is implemented in its letter and spirit, then I presume that many will be behind bars and the have nots will have an authentic grin.
Its my wholehearted humble request to only & only genuine RTI activists & media activists to use RTI Act to fight against corruption and diminish the massive gap between the have and the have nots.

Put road signs
Dear Editor,
Last month I invited some of my university friends from Delhi to visit my home town in Kurung Kumey district. From Guwahati, we booked a taxi for Itanagar. I was very excited to show them the only 4 lane road in AP, which is from Hollongi to Itanagar. But on the contrary, I was put to shame, when we saw that many parts of 4 lane road were dangerously sinking. Further, there was not a single caution or warning boards at the sinking sites.
Through this esteem daily, I would like to caution all the concerned administrative
and execution authority to take necessary action to prevent any major accident. As
per the law, the company has the responsibility of maintaining the road for at least
five years. This lone 4 lane road project could not withstand the test of time and
has failed within a short span of time. This reveals that the implementing companies
are using sub-
Therefore, I would also like to request concerned PWD chief engineer to look into the matter and resolve it for the safety of the common public of Arunachal Pradesh.
